GDC 2023 Announces New Summits Advisors for Game Narrative and Visual Effects

The Game Developers Conference returns to San Francisco this March 20-24, 2023, and organizers are thrilled to announce three more advisors for the GDC Summits

GDC 2023 is getting ready to accept submissions to present lectures and panels for the Summits portion of the event, which runs on Monday and Tuesday of the conference. Each summit centers on a niche topic within game development and its relevant community, and has its own set of advisors who define the summit’s editorial goals and review the summit’s submissions.

Here's the third round of new Summits Advisors that GDC is proud to share—head here for the first round of announcements, and here for the second round.

Game Narrative Summit

Sam Maggs—Narrative Lead for Digital Publishing & Licensing, Wizards of the Coast

Sam Maggs is a bestselling author of books, comics, and video games. She’s Narrative Lead for Wizards of the Coast’s Digital Publishing & Licensing division, and has written for games like Call of Duty: Vanguard, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Sam is the author of many YA and middle-grade books like The Unstoppable Wasp, Con Quest!, Tell No Tales, and The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy; and a comics writer for much-loved titles like Marvel Action: Captain Marvel, Critical Role, and Transformers. She is also an on-air host and moderator. A Canadian in Los Angeles, she misses Coffee Crisp and bagged milk.

Visual Effects Summit

Jason Keyser—Founder/CEO, VFX Apprentice

The visionary and chief pixel pusher of VFX Apprentice, Jason Keyser is a renowned FX artist, as well as a devoted VFX educator and student advocate. Jason has worked in entertainment as both a 2D FX and 3D VFX artist for 13 years, animating for The Powerpuff Girls, Arlo on Netflix, and multiple titles for Riot Games—including League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and several R&D projects. After many years of successfully mentoring FX artists in and outside of the studio, Jason ultimately left Riot in 2020 to commit full-time to VFX Apprentice, training the next generation of top-tier talent across the globe.

Claudio Perez—Projects & Operations Leader, VFX Apprentice

Claudio Perez is certified in project management with extensive experience in consulting in different industries in over 27 countries in his 26 years of working life, helping companies manage their portfolios and execute strategies for business development and growth. He has set up and managed conferences and events for major companies in Shared Services and Technology areas for 500+ people in multiple countries. Claudio joined VFX Apprentice in early 2022 to work with Jason Keyser to take VFX Apprentice to the next level.
